About BodyMedia: Based in Pittsburgh, BodyMedia provides healthcare professionals with advanced metabolic assessment and behavior therapy solutions for the treatment of obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

Challenge: Prior to engaging Ricochet, BodyMedia launched its first multi-sensor armband for weight-loss, the bodybugg™, in late 2004. However, the company’s announcement of the new technology fell flat, generating almost no press exposure, and consequently, little consumer demand. Six months later, BodyMedia retained Ricochet to reignite the campaign.

Strategy: Knowing that US healthcare providers and insurers would react strongly to BodyMedia’s financial message – that investments in metabolic assessment technologies can prevent the rise of costly and dangerous illnesses – Ricochet sought to place the company’s CEO, Astro Teller, in high profile speaking engagements heavily attended by payors, large employers, and front-line healthcare policy figures and analysts.

Results: Leveraging his extraordinary academic background and visionary work in human-body monitoring, Ricochet placed Mr. Teller as a keynote speaker at one of the nation’s most high-profile health care conferences: The World Health Care Congress. The CEO shared the stage with Francis Collins, the scientist famous for mapping the human genome. Ricochet also placed Mr. Teller in other speaking positions at highly respected healthcare and consumer technology events, such as The National Health, Wellness and Prevention Congress, helping to affirm his expertise amongst peers, consumers and journalists.
