About Deltek: Founded in 1983, Deltek is the leading provider of enterprise management software for project-focused organizations. With software applications and solutions helping more than 11,000 organizations worldwide, Deltek offers a comprehensive suite of products tailored to the specific needs of project-focused organizations in a variety of industries, including aerospace, defense, architecture, engineering, government, IT consulting, nonprofits and manufacturing.

Challenge: Despite its smaller size, Deltek competes with some of the largest names in the software industry, including Oracle and SAP. But, nearly unknown to the journalists in its space prior to hiring Ricochet, Deltek experienced difficulties in winning mindshare and attracting attention when the company made significant business announcements.

Strategy: Ricochet’s careful research of the industry landscape revealed that much of the remaining market for ERP software consisted of small and midsize businesses. As such, Ricochet positioned Deltek executives as experts in this space and organized desk-side briefings with prominent technology reporters to discuss changes in the industry. Beginning with reporters in Washington, DC, Ricochet arranged one-on-one interviews with appropriate journalists in Deltek’s major markets. To complement these briefings, Ricochet also secured speaking opportunities for Deltek’s executives at leading conferences and seminars in their field.

Results: As a result of this outreach, Deltek received a significant amount of press coverage immediately following the individual interviews. Furthermore, Ricochet leveraged the relationships created in these briefings to cultivate a steady stream of coverage for Deltek in a wide range of mainstream, local and trade publications including the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, the Houston Chronicle, the Los Angeles Business Journal, CIO, Forbes and the Associated Press. This breadth of coverage helped Deltek to reinforce its brand and build its reputation in vital geographic markets and industry sectors.
