SAVVIS, Inc.

Security Services Launch

About SAVVIS: SAVVIS, Inc., a global networking and utility computing provider, offers services extending to 47 countries with 2007 revenues projected to top $750 million. In January 2005, the company launched its managed security services portfolio.

Challenge: Operating in an extremely competitive environment against prominent brand names such as MCI, IBM and AT&T, SAVVIS needed to raise its profile in the US market in order to capture market share for its new security offerings.

Strategy: To raise awareness of SAVVIS’s offerings and differentiate the company from its competitors, Ricochet organized forums across the country that allowed SAVVIS Chief Security Officer Dr. Bill Hancock to interact with current and potential SAVVIS customers on the topic of emerging security threats. To complement these workshops, we invited local security writers to attend.

Results: Our efforts produced over a dozen stories in mainstream newspapers and leading trade journals including the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, CNET, eWeek, InformationWeek and InfoWorld, as well as a quarterly byline opportunity in BusinessWeek. Most importantly, the IT security community came to consider Dr. Hancock as a valuable source of expert analysis, and he was routinely contacted by leading journalists looking for comment on emerging security threats. This campaign boosted SAVVIS’s stature in the industry and the company has reported the sale of over 500 virtualized firewalls since the launch of the campaign.
